There will be a torch light procession and community carols filling the streets of Tetbury on the evening of the Christmas Lights Switch On, with live music from The Big Brunch Band, Swindon Brass and Avening Silver band, plus market stalls and late night Christmas shopping from 6pm on Thursday 5 December 2013.
Last Christmas HRH Prince Charles and Camilla switched on the Tetbury lights and this year The Fabulous Baker Brothers, Tom and Henry Herbert, will be flicking the switch, filling the streets of Tetbury with twinkly, festive lights.
You will get that warm, cosy, Christmassy feeling wandering the old streets of this picture postcard Cotswolds town. Popping into a range of Tetbury’s independent shops checking out the market stalls and there’s Prince Charles’ Highgrove shop, a must for great Christmas gifts.
Lighting Up Tetbury at Christmas has been a great success by the Tetbury Chamber of Commerce.
Forty-six lighted Christmas trees sponsored by businesses were used to decorate the buildings, predominantly along Church Street, Long Street and Market Place. Three large trees on the Town’s greens at The Knapp, The Green and The Chipping were also decorated with white lights.
Nearly seven hundred new white lights adorned each of the 2 Market Hall trees which are kindly supplied to The Feoffees of Tetbury by The Lowsley Williams family of Chavenage House. Together with the white lights on the Market Hall building itself, these formed the centre piece of the Town’s decorations.
Last year decorating the town took place over the last two weeks of November – probably the coldest two weeks in November for decades!!
The large trees on the Knapp and The Green were decorated with lights supplied and sponsored by Tetbury Town Council and erected by members of the Christmas in Tetbury team with the help of additional members of the Tetbury in Bloom Team. It took 4½ hours to complete with the promise of bacon butties at the end.
