Tim Minchin, comedian, actor, composer, songwriter, pianist, musical director and all round megastar stayed with his wife Sarah, he was a lovely guy. Particularly interesting for us as we had first seen an up and coming Tim on TV in his early years in Australia when we lived there. It felt quite strange that here we were in Tetbury and Tim Minchin was staying with us at Oak House No.1 ! Congratulations Tim on Matilda the musical and the new series of Californication with David Duchovny in the US.
We recently had the great fortune to meet actor Marc Warren (Mad Dogs) and his lovely wife Emma, such a kind and gentle couple that we are so happy to call friends now.
July 2016 the UK’s favourite tenor Russell Watson stayed with his lovely sister Hayley and a more genuine pair you would be hard to find, a sheer pleasure to be around. Lots to chat about and despite his fantastic success Russell is as down to earth as you could imagine.
Our Cotswolds luxury hotel has seen it’s share of famous faces and Oak House No.1 has quite a reputation in media circles. Recent guests include Johnny Vegas, Miranda Hart and Oscar winning playwright Sir Tom Stoppard and his lovely wife Sebrina to name but a few. Johnny Vegas visited with his Irish TV presenter wife Maia Dunphy were so nice and Johnny had great passion about art.Indeed he,like I went to art school and is a potter (who knew !).
It’s not every day that you host two superstars, but we had Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor staying with us at Oak House No.1. In case you didn’t know these are probably two of the most successful and famous Bollywood stars in India today. Kareena was telling us that she had made 60 films in just the last 16 years !
Many of our famous guests come from London for the weekend and Oak House No.1 is very popular with guests from the TV and entertainment business as well as the music industry, cosy and discreet Oak House No.1 is very much a home from home.
Tetbury often sees famous people from the music industry visiting, generally when they are playing a concert at Westonbirt Arboretum in the evening. Many concerts throughout the summer months are held at Westonbirt Arboretum, part of the ‘Forest Tour’. It’s a good idea to check the Westonbirt Arboretum calendar for the schedule of artists playing. Other luxury Cotswolds hotels are just not like Oak House No.1, we have an eclectic mix of clients mingling in what feels like a happy informal country house gathering.
You might even be surprised by who’s siting opposite you at the communal breakfast table in the morning. This reminds me of just a year back we had Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh staying with us (our Great Britain hockey Olympic gold medal winners ). I had spoken to Kate over the phone earlier and asked if they would bring their gold medals with them, which she did, so the next morning at breakfast they showed the medals to the other guests and even let people try them on!
Anyone watch Food Unwrapped or Jimmy and Jamie Oliver on Friday night’s ? Jimmy Docherty and lovely wife stayed for a while, lots of interesting chat about food of course but we agreed that the Oak House No.1 black pudding was the best in the country – you’ll just have to try it for yourself. Jimmy was so lovely he sent us a crate full of meats from his farm, in the crate was also some black pudding that he supplied at the farm. We had a discussion about black pudding earlier and we thought our offering was simply the best in the UK (Grants of Dornoch), but Jimmy thought Stornaway was the best (until he tried ours). Over the coming months our guests were given a piece of ours and a piece of Jimmy’s in a blind test and thankfully ours came out most popular. So a luxury black pudding in a luxury hotel in the Cotswolds.
The experience at Oak House No.1 is unlike any other Cotswolds luxury hotel.
